
Schumacher Young Artists Competition

Congratulations to the 2025 Schumacher Competition winner; James Carson!
James will perform Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor with the Cleveland Philharmonic on May 3rd and 4th, 2025
The competition is open to all Ohio vocal and instrumental students in grades 7 through 12. The winner receives a solo performance with the orchestra and a cash prize.
Frieda Schumacher
Pictured here on the right, Frieda lived and taught in the former Briggs Estate located in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
In 1929, Frieda was the first woman at the Cleveland Institute of Music to earn a Bachelor of Music degree.
Miss Schumacher advocated for and organized the beginning of the competition which continues to this day.
