Victor Liva began his tenure as Music Director of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra with the 2007-2008 concert season. Under his leadership, the Orchestra has broadened its relationships with professional artists and educational institutions in the Cleveland area and with local community arts organizations. Each season, the featured soloists have regularly included members of The Cleveland Orchestra and artist-faculty members from Cleveland's educational institutions, as well as artists pursuing international solo careers. Collaborative performances have been given with Verb Ballets, the Almeda Trio, the West Shore Chorale, among others. Educational collaborations have included side-by-side performances with students from the Cleveland School of the Arts (CSA) and Lakewood High School and a performance with the CSA Concert Choir. Under Dr. Liva's direction, the Philharmonic has maintained its strong core of talented community musicians while attracting a growing membership of amateur and professional musicians from the Greater Cleveland area, including advanced students who join the ensemble to gain orchestral experience.

Victor Liva began violin studies at the age of eight with his father, Ferdinand Liva, a well-acclaimed conductor and violinist of the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. He has studied violin with accomplished musicians, such as Dr. Min Soo Chang, Helen Kwalwasser, Odin Rathnam, and Ryan Kho. He holds degrees from Wilkes University, Temple University, and the University of South Carolina, where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Conducting under the tutelage of Donald Portnoy.

Dr. Liva has conducted various youth, college, and professional orchestras, including the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras of the Encore Music Camp of Pennsylvania, the Wilkes University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the Sinfonia Youth Orchestra, the Scottsdale Symphony, the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and is the former Director of Orchestras at Northern Arizona University. He has conducted festivals in Arizona, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Liva has served as assistant concertmaster of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and is a former member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Harrisburg Symphony, the Haddonfield Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Augusta Opera, Philadelphia Virtuosi, and many other orchestras.

Dr. Liva serves as Orchestra Director and Coordinator of String Studies at Cleveland State University and is on the conducting staff at the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He also serves as Philharmonia Conductor of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras in Oberlin, Ohio.
